December 2005

I just got through my first free roll tournament on Pokerstars. I finished in like 1900 place out of 4000. I don’t feel so bad though, I only got dealt three playable hands the whole time. I just kept folding, fell behind in chips, and got stuck going all in with pocket 4’s. Overall, it was fun and it only cost me 45 min. There is another one tomorrow, so I’m to try again and hope for some better cards.

Well I wouldn’t exactly call it a problem…considering I’m still nickle and diming my way through my initial $50 deposit on poker stars…although I have yet to get up from a game with extra money in my pocket. Anyway, I play on pokerstars as aglio and have one of thos blog thingies over at http://www.dairytwist.org

So, a little about me…not a regular poker player. Although if I had a game next door I probably would play. It’s those pesky games at BJs [about 25miles from me…yeah I’m lazy] and the ones at work [20 miles] that I have trouble making it to. That being said, I love Las Vegas, I love betting on sports, I love blackjack…and I feel more at home in a casino with a pack of smokes, a jack and coke and a few 5 spots burning a hole in my pocket at the cheap tables. One of these days I’ll get into playing regularly in real life..instead like I said, I’m nickling and diming my way through pokerstars…with an occassional $5 SNG.

And for some reason I tend to get “Hammered” all of the time. You know, the infamous 7 2. I swear I get those cards at least 10-15 times a night. So, I’m buying this:

Greg The Hammer Valentine

as a good luck charm that will ultimately result in scenes like this:

Dwayne

I love the hammer…well not really, but it seems to love me.

Last night I played in my weekly cash game, and it was a good and incredibly lucky night. I tend to play very tight, so much so that I earned the nickname “Action Dan”. But last night I just kept getting good cards in position, so I kept getting into hands. I played pretty well, but sometimes there is no substitute for good luck.

For instance, I was small blind and my friend Chris (who is probably the best player in our game) was in late position . I was dealt K 10 off suit, so I raised preflop, everyone else folded, he called. Flop comes K Q 10, I flopped two pair, so I bet, he called. Turn was A, I bet again, he called. River comes J, so I make my straight. I bet again, but then I got raised. I figured the straight was the nuts, so I called. He flips over A J, and then proceeds to tilt when I flip over my K 10. And we split the 10 cents my friend Jerry had tried to limp in with. Come to think of it, Chris actually was the victim of several suck outs throughout the night.

Overall it was a great night for me, I doubled my five dollar buy in for my best night in poker to date.

Ok, today I installed the software for pokerstars after using the link off this page.

Basically, I am looking for some advice on where to start. I have my account validated but I have not gone to any tables. So where should I go from here?

This is the creepiest player image I’ve seen in a while….weirdo…

Creepy Avatar

As you may or may not have noticed, I did not post the previous post - that was Dan…who is currently living in Massachusetts - we’ll call him the northeast correspondent. I never planned on being the only author on poker jobber and have a few other possible authors lines up (Carlos, Dwayne). If anyone else has any interest in being a guest or regular author, let me know. Now it’s time to win this $3.00 tourney on Poker Stars… 1,818 entrants and only 1,374 left.

Update: I came in 200th in the tourney which was in the money since pokerstars has started paying out 20% of the field in their smaller buy-in tournaments (probably gets people playing more tournaments). I turned $3.00 into $6.45…that’s how loaded I am.
